Taipei Day 2: Jiu Fen + Hotpot Dinner

Continued post from Taipei Day 1:
http://bouncingmelody.blogspot.sg/2014/05/taipei-day-1-shida-night-market.html

It was raining on Day 2, but we decided to head to Jiu Fen anyway. To head to Jiu Fen, take the MRT to Taipei Main Station --> Walk to TRA to purchase train tickets to Rui Fang --> Board a bus to Jiu Fen.

At Taipei Main Station

My FAVOURITE sugar butter bun!!!
The above sugar butter bun is amazinggg. I could have eaten that everyday if not for my sorethroat. Super buttery and fragrant - just the way I love it.

The journey from our hotel in XMD to Jiu Fen took like almost 2 hours, because of all the waiting time. The train journey from Taipei Main Station to Rui Fang itself was already 1 hour.

It was still raining when we reached Jiu Fen
Thankful for the boy who always sheltered me from the rain! <3

Homemade fishballs in soup
Huge fu zhou ball with generous filling!
The first thing we ordered was the above homemade fish balls/fuzhou balls/pork balls in soup. For only NT40, it was very well worth it! The fuzhou ball was the biggest I've ever eaten :D

Ice cream popiah :)
I personally dislike the taste of coriander leaves, so I requested for that to be left out of my ice cream popiah! Being a huge fan of ice cream, I really enjoyed this street snack! The combination of popiah skin, peanuts and ice cream just goes really well together! I wonder why we don't have this in Singapore. It's so easy to make, isn't it?

Mini flavoured fish balls
Mini flavoured fish balls
The fish balls came in a variety of flavours like curry, kimchi, spicy, miso and original. I thought the flavours sounded interesting, so Jem and I shared a stick of 5 different flavoured fish balls. I didn't find the taste to be anything unique or drool-worthy though, so I would say this street snack is one that can be given a miss! But then again, since all the street snacks are so cheap, why not? ;)

Lunch
Lunch was at this restaurant near the entrance of Jiu Fen (can't recall the name). We were kinda famished by then (street snacks ain't filling!), so this bowl of prawn/egg soup tasted especially delicious.

Group photo!
Given the poor weather, we decided to head back to Taipei for dinner and rest early!

Steamboat Dinner

Dinner was at this steamboat buffet restaurant in Ximending. There are many restaurants serving steamboat buffet, so walk around and find yourself a good deal :) You shouldn't have to pay more than SGD $25 for a good dinner buffet.

The spread was pretty awesome. The drinks section included beverages like packet bubble tea, yakult and old school bottled soft drinks. I was particularly happy when I saw that we could help ourselves to free flow Movenpick and Haagan Daaz ice cream! :D
