Krabi Part 1

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel only read a page." - Saint Augustine

When I was younger, I didn't really enjoy travelling. Although the hassle of planning for trips was handled entirely by my parents, I found travelling to be a tiresome process, be it rushing for my flight or covering multiple attractions in a day. I very much preferred to just stay home and read my favourite book or catch up on some TV shows. That was my idea of a relaxing holiday. Anyone who still shares this sentiment?

I'm not too sure what changed, but I began enjoying exploring the world over time. Perhaps being caught up in this manic pace of life sparked my desire for an occasional escape into a new environment. Perhaps I've grown so used to the sights and sounds of Singapore that new landscapes awaken my soul. Or more likely, it's really just a combination of several factors which I can't yet definitively conjure up.

But anyway, I was really thrilled when my friends and I booked our flights to Krabi for our December getaway, and more so when our departure date arrived! :)

Our cosy room at Deevana Plaza Hotel
As usual, after checking into our hotel room, we spent a good 1 hour just lazing on the bed first. Hehehe. There's something about white bedsheets and fluffy pillows that's just so alluring, don't you think?

First Thai dinner

By the time we left for dinner, the sky was getting pretty dark, so we settled for a restaurant at a nearby hotel. If you think the food looks appealing, please don't let your eyes fool you, for these dishes look better than they taste! Just a tip to share - go for the roadside stalls if you are looking for cheap, delicious and authentic local food. :D (Will post some pictures of the better Thai dishes we tried in the later part of this post!)

Tom yum soup which was too cold

Chicken meat was a tad overcooked, but the mushrooms and sauce were yummy

Green curry which was a little too milky for my liking

Singha beer
Ended the night with some Thai beer and chips over a movie on Jem's Ipad. Totally missing that kind of laid-back life already!

Getting judged for taking "selfies" as usual hahaha
Headed for our Phi Phi Island tour the next day after a really filling buffet breakfast! I really love buffets because I'm a huge eater. :p

A "we-fie" before we boarded the speedboat
Picture perfect - Azure blue skies + White sandy shores!

Of course we needed to take a photo with such a gorgeous backdrop! :D
Our travel companions!

Had a lovely time frolicking and snorkelling in these amazing clear turquoise waters. As I can't swim, I was holding on to the life vest for my dear life, but trying out a new water activity was certainly quite an experience! :) Many thanks to Jem who stayed super close by my side to ensure I felt comfortable and safe throughout! <3

Lip-smacking local cuisine
We were absolutely worn out by evening, but thank goodness we had a wonderful dinner to end the day! We ate at a roadside stall this time round, and all the dishes were certainly more flavourful and affordable! Oh yum. Looking at these food pictures are making me real hungry in the middle of the night.

"Morning glory" vegetable which I believe is our version of kangkong. There was no spice added to this dish, but it tastes really good anyway.
Butter squid. 2 thumbs up!!
Highlight of the meal was probably this steamed fish which was incredibly tender and juicy!
Will continue with my Krabi trip update another time. Time to hit the bed. Night folks!

Have a blessed week ahead!
