But before that, here's a new restaurant for review!
Tonkichi
4 Tampines Central 5
Tampines Mall, #03-26/27
Tel: 6789 1726
Headed to Tonkichi for an early Mother's Day celebration :) Tonkichi is famous for its Tonkatsu (breaded deep fried pork cutlet), and as I will mention later, it really does live up to its reputation.
Lighting in the restaurant was rather dim, but it gave my pictures a nice effect haha. The place also felt a tad too warm, as though the aircon wasn't working well. >.<
Blooms we got for mummy! |
Chawanmushi is a must-have everytime I visit a Japanese restaurant! :D Some of us ordered set meals, which came with chawanmushi, appetizer and miso soup. However, if you were to order chanwamushi as an a-la-carte dish here, it costs $5.
Can't rmb the names of our set meals, but this is basically buckwheat soba noodles with a sashimi platter. Personally, I prefer cha soba (green tea soba) to buckwheat soba, so I didn't wipe my plate clean. Sashimi was fresh, but all in all, this set meal did not stand out.
Jem ordered the above claypot katsu dish, which was the best of the day imo! The texture of the breadcrumbs, pork and sauce were wonderful. Really one of the best Tonkatsus I've tasted.
Grilled salmon set meal ordered by my little sis.
Tempura + buckwheat soba set ordered by my 2nd sis. Tempura batter was crisp, airy and greaseless - just the way I like it!
Our feast :) |
Happy Mother's Day! |
In a nutshell, I would recommend Tonkichi only for its Tonkatsu dishes. The other dishes on the menu did not impress us! We spent on average $20 per pax.
Headed to Marina Bay afterwards to catch a stroll. <3
